The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) is soliciting input regarding a proposed land exchange in Granite County near Philipsburg and Drummond, Montana. Under the proposal, the DNRC would acquire 1,680 acres of deeded private land 14 miles southwest of Drummond Montana and in T9N, R14W, Sections 7, 9, 17 and 21. There currently is no legal easement to these sections but if acquired by the DNRC, they would become legally accessible, creating a block of 2,300 acres as well as improving access to approximately 4,000 acres of USFS lands. Under the proposal, the State would exchange 640 acres of State School Trust land in T5N, R15W, Section 36 located approximately 14 miles southwest of Philipsburg, Montana. This section is legally accessible via walk-in access from adjacent USFS lands.
